Teaver Road Baptist Church held their fifth annual car show on Saturday, August 16th, 2008.

The start of the high school softball season began this past weekend (08/15 and 08/16) with the annual Villa Rica Invitational in Villa Rica, GA.
Many of the local high schools competed. LaGrange High School finished with three wins (Mount Zion, Heard County and Carrollton) and three loses (Douglas County, Ridgeland and Haralson County). Check out some photos from the tournament.

28TH ANNUAL MIDNIGHT EXPRESS - COLUMBUS, GA - 08/23/2008
Country’s Barbecue (Columbus, GA) along with a number of sponsors is holding their 28th annual Midnight Express (5,000 Meter Road Race). This race is the beginning of the cross country season for many of the local high schools.
The fun begins on Thursday, August 21st with the 9-hole daylight and 9-hole glow-in-the-dark golf tournament at Maple Ridge in Columbus, GA. This is followed by the Beep Ball/Softball game at CSU fast pitch softball field on Friday, August 22nd. The music begins on Saturday, August 23rd at 8:00 pm in the Country’s Barbecue parking lot on Mercury Drive with the race starting at midnight.
All runners receive a Midnight Express T-shirt, Country’s barbecue sandwich, Country’s famous iced tea, frozen treats, popcorn and fruit.
Come down and check it out, it is a lot of fun for everyone!
Early registration (through August 21, 2008) is $20.00 and late registration (August 22 and 23, until 11:30 pm) is $25.00.

It is that time of year, the end of summer, school is back in session. What better time to announce the best contest that Get-TheDL.com has ever offered.
WHAT DID YOU DO THIS SUMMER Contest?
Every year teachers ask their students to write an essay about what they did the previous summer.
Get-TheDL.com wants you to not only write us an essay, but send us pictures or send us a video of what you did this summer. The contest is open to all young adults between the ages of 12 and 19 years old.
The contest will run from August 15th until September 19th, 2007. There are three categories to this contest.
The First Category is an essay contest. We are looking for the best story of what you did this summer.
The Second Category is a photo contest. You must submit at least three photos showing what you did this summer with a short note explaining the pictures.
The Third Category is a video contest. We are looking for the best short video of your summer vacation.
Now for the prizes:
1st place (for each category) will get a $ 100.00 gift certificate to Walmart
2nd place (for each category) will get a $ 50.00 gift certificate to Walmart
3rd place (for each category) will get a $ 25.00 gift certificate to Walmart

The first day of games started at 3:30 pm at the George F. Harris Baseball Complex in LaGrange, GA. The teams were excited and it looks like we are going to have some great baseball games this week.
We did experience some problems with getting photos of the games today due to a misunderstanding with the local recreation department but we did get some and they are available here at http://www.get-thedl.photoreflect.com and online under the heading 08042008 - Baseball - DYWS.

The Opening Ceremonies of the 53rd Annual Dixie Youth World Series was held Sunday, August 3rd at Callaway Stadium in LaGrange, GA.
Twenty four teams from eleven states gathered along with guests and local citizens to kick off the six day event.
The “Silver Wings” parachute team parchuted into the stadium to kick off the festivities. Entertainment by area students from across Troup County as well as music by “The Rubes” and a fireworks display welcomed the many players and visitors to the area.
The games begin on Monday at 3:30 pm at the George Harris Baseball Complex.
